Soulima Stravinsky to Boulanger
Voreppe (Isère)
January 16, 1933
My very dear Mademoiselle,
It is certainly much too late to wish you a Happy New Year. All the same, I wish you all the
happiness and health possible for the fifty weeks to come, as well as to Madame Boulanger,
while apologizing for my tardiness. It is because I recently had concerts in Switzerland from
which I have just returned for the holidays. We were profoundly touched by your good thoughts
and we thank you wholeheartedly.
I must come to Paris for the 25th, and on the 26th (it’s a Wednesday) rue Ballu? I have a lesson
with M. Philipp at 5 o' clock. I hope to see you again a little after 6 o’clock. If not, I will
telephone you, because I would so much like to see you again.
In this hope, please always remember, my dear Mademoiselle, my most grateful and respectful
affection,

My very dear friend,
I am still under the influence of yesterday evening’s serene memorial. I really would have liked
to see you, but the number of people going to greet you made it difficult for me.
I am thinking of you, believe me, and please accept these flowers intended for the grave of your
dearly departed.

May 3, 1932
Dear Mademoiselle,
We were very touched by your kind thoughts for Easter and we thank you with all our hearts.
Thank you as well for your kind letter, which I am very embarrassed not to have answered until
today.
Is Madame Boulanger doing a bit better, is she suffering a bit less? I cannot express how much I
am affected by her long, painful suffering. I send my sympathy to you and to her.
I will probably see you again soon, which delights me greatly. I intend to come to Paris for a
couple of days at the end of May. Perhaps you will see my father beforehand because he leaves
for Paris this week to record L’Histoire du soldat and the Octuor.
I believe he wants to see you about me. I have every intention of seeing Philipp to get some
technical advice and some guidelines from him for my work. It needs to be done without
offending Madame Chailley at all and therein, it seems to me, lies the difficulty.
I am sure you will give me good advice about this and, in waiting to see you again soon, when I
can tell you all that I have done this winter, I send to you, my very dear Mademoiselle, my most
devoted affection and to Madame Boulanger my utmost respect.

Votre,
Sviatoslav Strawinsky
