Boulanger to Théodore Strawinsky
November 24, 1964
Dear Théodore,
Thank you for your thoughtfulness, it is kind [of you] at a very painful time. Prince Pierre was so
close, so necessary, [he has left] a very deep emptiness.
But I am happy to know that you are finally at home. I hope so much that Denise truly feels
better.
Saw your Father in Berlin. His new work is moving was very beautiful—he himself is full of
ideas, of conviction, but it’s sad that his physical state weighs so heavily on him. I was so happy
to have spent those few hours with him. His joy about the new house is extraordinary. [He has]
the enthusiasm of someone whose future lies before him, yet . . . He knows, but he acts, lives,
and feels with a heightened acuity, as if he has nothing more to lose. A very beautiful courage
and inner strength. You have told me nothing about Kitty, are you also preoccupied? How I think
of you both, of your Mother, of Mika, on the 28th!
All my love,
Nadia.

Nadia.

My Friend,
I will be with you on Saturday with such great loyalty and emotion. I see everything again, as if
it were yesterday...
Words are pointless, we know what lives in our hearts, protected by silence.
I’ve returned—from Monaco—days of intense sadness, and yet so luminous. I knew Pierre of
Monaco very well and loved him a great deal. Everything he left behind will help us live despite
what he takes with him.
I don’t know if you could have known that he was truly so secret, so alone, and yet so rich.
The Foundation held on so tightly to the hope that this project would be realized, the only one
that appeared to me as the most beautiful, most appropriate [one], so everything is under
consideration again. But I believe their budget will not permit them to plan for what hasn’t been
discussed but surpasses their available funds.
I am, as always, with you, and I believe I understand you, see you, and always love you with all
my heart,
Nadia B

Mon Ami,
Nadia B

Geneva
November 17, 1964
Dear Nadia,
Denise and I know you are in deep sadness. Our thoughts, on the announcement of the passing of
Prince Pierre of Monaco, went directly to you, knowing what the heart of such a great and
faithful friend as you can give . . . and how it can weep at the heartbreak of such separation. We
are in Geneva now and once again under our own roof.
Allow me, dear Nadia, to tell you again of our deepest affection and kindest thoughts,

Dear Igor,
Thank you for your telegram. I cannot respond with precise details, the Committee President is
absent. But I believe the amount would be $10,000, and perhaps the date changed, but I believe it
will [still] be in 1965.
You can imagine how much I hope this project becomes a reality. I am very sad, Pierre of
Monaco died Tuesday. I still can’t believe everything is finished. But what can I say, I will
always feel his presence.
The heart is tired, yet God’s will be done.
My fondest wishes.
I love you so, Dear Igor,

[P.S.] Tell me as soon as you can what you think of this offer.
[P.P.S.] I leave for Monaco but will be here on the 18th. Will telegram as soon as I’ve been able

Cher Igor,
