Dear Friend,
Here is the sheet music for Perséphone. I cannot tell you my sorrow in parting with it—not a day
went by that I did not owe it for profound and radiant joys. I was hoping to make a two-piano
reduction—this will [have to wait] for your return. Allow me also to enclose a cheque—if the
circumstances and my stupid illness were not complicating everything, you would have had it
sooner. But what you’ve given is so meaningful that many years will pass before we will have
exhausted its richness.
How can I thank you—need I tell you. You know, don't you, what you mean to all of us, and
above all, I add to a limitless admiration my whole-hearted affection, dear Friend,
Your

Cher Ami,
