Thank you, thank you, dear Nadia, for your letter—I am very appreciative, believe me.
We are going to Venice (certainly to Bauer) on July 29, embarking for New York on board the
Cristoforo Colombo (which hit a whale between Genoa and Naples very recently). Threni (or
Lamentations after the Vulgate) upon which the composition touches near the end, will be
performed at the Scuola San Rocco under my direction around September 20; then I conduct
Oedipus and Le Sacre and on Sept 24 I leave with my whole ensemble for Switzerland, where I
am conducting Threni from Sept 25 to 29 in Geneva, Berne, Bâle, and Zurich. As for the desired
allocation for the Lili Boulanger Fund: OK.
Poor Marie-Blanche. I am thinking of her and I sympathize with your grief because I know you
were great friends.
I have as well just learned of a death that has greatly affected me—that of Alexandre Piovesan of
the Venice Biennale, he couldn’t have been more than forty years old!
Affectionately yours,
I. Stravinsky

I. Stravinsky
