The Irish Leslies

The Irish branch of Clan Leslie was established by Rev. John Leslie, Bishop of Clogher, who was sent to Ireland to the bishopric of Raphoe, in 1633. In his later years, “the Fighting Bishop” purchased Glasslough Castle, in County Monaghan, renaming it Castle Leslie. The Leslie authors featured in this section were raised at Castle Leslie. Though their extensive landholdings grew to include Oranmore, as well as property in the Isle of Mull, many of their memoirs reflect on childhood spent at Castle Leslie. The self-proclaimed eccentric Irish Leslie family were creative, adventurous, and artistic, and they have left behind a rich library of books ranging from biographies to memoirs with glimpses into high society, from wartime tales and adventures, to the paranormal and out of this world.
