My face

My name is Andres Bravo, I was born and raised in Guelph, Ontario and currently attend the University of Guelph studying biology. Fun fact: My name is pronounced rolling the “r” and I am deaf in my left ear!

I enjoy learning about all things science, cars, and sports. I watch the NBA mostly with the Toronto Raptors being my favourite team. My curiosity lends to my desire for learning new things which is a reason why I chose to take this course.

I chose this postcard because it is full of detail. The front has more text and colour than most other postcards, giving me a basis for research to learn all about its historical significance. It features a very artistic depiction of the Castle in Inverness with many of the surrounding Tartans and their respective plaid patterns as the border. These details peaked my curiosity about the history of the building and its respective clans in which it is associated. It also contains many personal details from those that used the postcard at the back giving me ample opportunity to discover the rich history of its use.

I have learned about the historical significance of ephemera. These are items such as postcards that were not made with the intention of lasting after use. We can come to appreciate a deeper understanding of the culture, and atmosphere of a specific place through its material. It has taught me most of all that the significance of an object is not bound to its initial surface level impression; rather requiring a careful analysis of its details in order to extrapolate its significance. The course also furthered my writing and research skills through projects such as the one you are currently reading.
