Hi! I'm Lexy Lindau- I was born in Oakville but I've lived in Vancouver all my life. I'm currently majoring in BioChemistry at the University of Guelph but I might switch to Neuroscience, and I'm hoping to get my Ph.D. after this and do medical research. My favourite food lately is grilled cheese and tomato soup which I've only recently started liking. While I was in grade twelve I worked as a kids gymnastics coach which was weird because I've never taken gymnastics class in my life but for some reason they still hired me.

I wanted to take the History of Stuff class because I thought the concept of looking at objects that were designed to be disposable as a historical source, especially since we live in such a consumer-focused, disposable-heavy society at the moment. I this class I especially liked learning about the cultural influences surrounding the creation and popularization of postcards, because the idea of something that originally was mostly used for advertising turning into this huge phenomenon that allowed people to connect to one another more easily is fascinating to me.

I chose this postcard because I thought it was really interesting how popular media even in the early nineteenth century had an impact on how and where people travelled, comparable almost to a Victorian-era version of Disney land, as in both cases people travelled to get a deeper experience of a story that they enjoyed.
