What kind of postcard is this?

The "Ingle Series" Crest that identifies postcards in the series.

The message on this postcard was written by a woman named Marie on March 31st 1909, and was stamped and sent the next day to 14 Park St Gloversrule, New York to Mr. Harry L Kindall. It can be assumed that Marie and Harry were intimately related as she mentions several times she looks forward to his phone calls, invites him to her home while she will be alone and signs "Lovingly, Marie".

Pictured on the postcard is Darling's Regent Hotel 20 Waterloo Place, Calton Hill, Edinburgh. Two photos are on the front of the card, one of the hotel interior and the other a street view from the east end of Princes Street (Scott, 2010).

It is part of the Ingle series by photographer Alex A. Inglis, who likely published and printed many similar postcards. It is an advertisement postcard.

It is unknown whether or not photographer Alex. A Inglis was affiliated with the hotel, as it was one of few hotels in the series. Other postcards in the series mainly feature landscape and castles. It is possible Inglis sold the postcards to the hotel for advertisement and marketing purposes.

A very similar postcard from the same series was sent by Margaret B Murray to Queensland, Australia on January 15th1909,  two months before Marie’s was sent (Scott, 2010). This indicates there were at least two versions of the Darling's Regent Hotel postcards in the Ingle series.
