About the Curator

My name is Trent Claessens. I am a first-year student majoring in Management Economics and Finance at the University of Guelph. I am very interested in how the financial system operates as well as sports. But, more importantly, I enjoy the outdoors, which is the main reason I chose my postcard. I love the raw and wilderness landscape captured in the postcard. Secondly, I chose this particular postcard because of the small bible verse in the top right corner. I felt the postcard held a more significant meaning than just a simple message to a relative or friend because of this. I have learned lots throughout the semester in my History of Stuff class. I defiantly improved in my ability to analyze text to find key information. Plus, I developed my public speaking skills by sharing my knowledge to the class without rehearsal. From a standpoint of course content, I learned things about the history of the postcard that I would’ve never thought of or researched. Specifically, how postcards were practically used in same way we use text messages today because of the capability of multiple daily pick up and deliveries (postcrossing, 2019).
