The original purpose of the invention of peanut butter, as briefly mentioned in origins, was for Dr. Kellogg to find a vegetarian-friendly, healthy alternative to feed his patients who had no teeth (Dally, 2012). The more popular it grew, the more prominent it became in households across the country. The Heinz Peanut Butter Recipes booklet provides recipes that are both healthy for individual meals and sweet for a shareable treat to show how diversely the product could be used. Peanut butter has an indulging flavor and soft texture that make it a tasty snack packed with nutrients that can actually decrease health risks, too (Perry, 2011).
The vibrant colours and boisterous text in the booklet point towards the idea that Heinz was doing their best to boast about their product, in competition with other popular brands at the time, like Peter Pan and Skippy, among others (Michaud, 2012). It does an excellent job of promoting the main product, peanut butter, while also reminding viewers that Heinz 57 meant that they also had many other popular food items on the market.
