Wartime Suggestions 3.jpeg

Frigidaire released this booklet in 1943, right in the middle of the Second World War. At the time the booklet was released, the war had been going on for about four years, and everyone was eager to finish it. During this time as well, countries began rationing their food so that they could keep the troops fed. The rationing did not hit America as hard as it did other countries, but it still cost Americans a hefty price. Many companies at the time, including Frigidaire, began making products like guns, ammunition, and vehicle parts to support the war. (u-s-history.com, 2017)

The war was also used as a major sales tool by companies. Many companies began releasing advertisements that projected their support of the war to gain popularity, (Little, 2014). Many of these advertisements included suggestions towards the sales of war bonds, which were means for the government to borrow money from civilians in order to fund their wars. War bonds allowed the people that stayed behind during the war to feel like they were doing their part.
