Purpose and Function

Party Suggestions_ 002_preview.jpeg

Recipes for popular party foods were useful for people hosting parties in the 1950's.

When this pamphlet was created, its assumed use was to provide party suggestions for homemakers; that is, to provide quick and easy recipes for guests at dinner parties.

Now, after decades of its creation, nobody assumes the same use of the pamphlet as people in the 1950's. Today, it serves as a historical piece of ephemera that can be studied rather than using it for cooking. Another present-day use could be for research about the author (Jane Ashley) or the time period, the brands of ingredients used in the recipes, or the societal changes within the era it was created. From this information, one could make assumptions and formulate hypotheses about this historical significance in order to collect information and make further inferences and determinations about this.
