Purpose and Function

The purpose of this trade card is to act as a piece of advertisement for the Guelph Wholesale Jobbing House. They want to be better than their competitor and are clearly advertising that they are. This specific trade card is advertising the lack of Montreal trade goods, ensuring to the public that there goods are safe from smallpox. This trade card is also advertising that they sell cheaper than any other house could buy. The colourful picture of children playing is used to depict a happy winter scene. This appeals to a broader market as it creates an interest for families to shop there. The font is very appealing to the eye with GUELPH WHOLESALE JOBBING HOUSE popping off the trade card. This makes you read the business’s name first.
