The location shown in my postcard is Urquhart Castle. Urquhart Castle is located on the North side of Loch Ness in the highlands of Scotland. The castle is on the A82 road, 21 kilometres south-west of Inverness and 2 kilometres east of the village of Drumnadrochit. The castle is set at craggy headland with its large rock base at its landward end (E.Allock, L.Allock, 1992). It overlooks the Loch as well as Urquhart bay which extends over lengths of 1 kilometre by 0.5 kilometres. The bay It guards the entrance to Glen Urquhart, and all its fertile vegetation along with all the historic artifacts located within the site (Samson,1982). Inland from the bay there is plenty of fertile land, capable of producing crops of barley and oats as well as grass, creating a sustainable agricultural base which extends up to Glen Urquhart for approximately 13 kilometres (E.Allock, L.Allock, 1992).
