Princes Street

The location portrayed in my postcard is Princes Street in Edinburgh, Scotland. Specifically the Scott Monument located in the adjacent Princes Street Gardens. The street is one of the major access routes throughout central Edinburgh. The street was a critical part of the cities expansion in the late 18th century. The popular views along the street made it a particularly popular spot to build hotels. The street has long been home to several businesses throughout its history. These range from Victorian medical insurance agencies (Lancet, 1890) to modern retail shops. (Arnold 2004) The street heavily features architecture from famous architect Robert Adam. (Fleming 1962)
