POLISH STRAWBERRY SOUP

s02chilledfruitsoup.jpg

I selected Polish cuisine and a recipe for chilled fruit soup. This recipe was from Peter and Laura Zeranski’s Polish Classic Cooking, which was published in 2011 by Pelican Publishing Company, Inc.

My grandfather grew up in Poland, and immigrated to Canada with my nana in 1955. Sadly, he passed away before I was born. I chose Polish cuisine for this assignment so that I could learn more about my heritage. Strawberry chilled fruit soup reminded me of summer, and strawberries are my favourite fruit. This soup was traditionally served to farmers on a hot summer’s day (Zeranski & Zeranski, 2011b), although now it is a favourite in many Polish households across the world: over one million Canadians identify as Polish (Statistics Canada, 2016), and over 52 million Poles live worldwide (Countries and their Cultures, 2017).

This exhibit was created by Kelly Gillies-Podgorecki (year 5, Applied Human Nutrition).
