About this recipe

DUTCH, MEAT CROQUETTES

Dutch cuisine is very diverse because it comprises a wide variety of ethnic groups and cultures. There are many types of dishes with an array of cooking methods and ingredients within the Dutch culture. For this reason, many Dutch dishes are found in many areas throughout the world.

Our chosen cookbook is classified as a Domestic Cookbook, meaning that it encompasses both recipes and teaching methods for women on how to properly manage a household (ie. cooking and cleaning). These types of cookbooks were a phenomenon of the 19th Century. The cookbook that we chose was published in 1910, and has been republished over 29 times. Although the cover does not seem very appealing today, when it was published in the 1900s it was probably considered to be captivating to readers.

After translating the recipe, we found that it was presented in the cookbook in a straightforward and easy-to-follow manner. All of the ingredients included in the recipe were easily accessible, as Guelph has a store specific to Dutch Cuisine called “The Dutch Toko”.
