I selected Swedish cuisine and a recipe for butter, cheese, and picked herring. This recipe was from Stina Holmberg, Food’s Ready!, published by IKEA. This dish is a good representation of Swedish culture because herring is a basic ingredient in Swedish cuisine. According to the cookbook, eating herring is “the most Swedish thing you can do.” Pickled herring is a delicacy in Europe, so many Europeans, including those Canadians who are of European descent, might be interested in this recipe.
I became interested in this cuisine because I was exposed to Swedish culture and food from a young age. I like smoked salmon, so I was very curious about the taste of the pickled herring. I also find Nordic culture very fascinating.
