If I had used the highest priced ingredients we saw for sale on September 30th in Guelph, this cost would be 28% higher. If I used the lowest priced ingredients, the cost would be less than 1% less.
The cost of this recipe was relatively cheap. The major issue that I noticed was that there is a lot of, “wastage” associated with the ingredients needed in order to make the dish. Many of the ingredients do not come in smaller packages (e.g. brown sugar and cornstarch) that allow for only one use for the recipe. An advantage to this is that those ingredients can be used again in the future due to their long shelf life. In the case of the cream however, it has a shorter shelf life and can add to the cost if expired. Also, most to all of the ingredients that were bought were on sale, contributing to the low cost.
