Bruschetta originated from Tuscany, where Italians would toast stale bread over hot coals, rub it with garlic, and then use it to sample freshly pressed olive oil (Sachs 2015). It has now become a main appetizer in Italian homes and restaurants. The main ingredients include Italian bread, garlic, tomatoes and olive oil, but other ingredients can be added to create many variations.
