BISKUITROLLE (Swiss Roll)
During our primary analysis of the recipe we found some interesting facts. One is that Dr. Oetker is the inventor of baking powder. He first created it in 1891 in his pharmacy in Germany. (Oulton, 2009). This was the step that sparked the building of an internationally known company. Post invention the company that he created tried to get the word out through newspaper ads as well as special recipe booklets like the one we used for this recipe. Another fact we encountered is that while biskuitrolle is often served at Swiss holidays, the origin of this desert is actually unknown. Despite the common name for it being “swiss roll” it is more than likely not central to Switzerland but is thought to be from another central European country (Oulton, 2009). Finally, we encountered that there are many different variations of both the dough and the fillings of this recipe. It is a recipe that is easily customizable to the consumer. Since there are so many possibilities, there is a biskuitrolle for all to enjoy.
