Making it in Canada

BISKUITROLLE (Swiss Roll)

Canada is a major producer, exporter and importer of an immense variety of agricultural and food products ranging from processed foods with global value chains to local, farm-based value chains.  In this section, we share 3 of our research insights and assess to what extent our recipe can be made from Canadian agricultural and food products.

Some interesting insights that we found completing our value chain analysis include that sugarcane is produced in warm climates near the equator.

The lead producer of sugarcane is Brazil producing almost 750 million tonnes per year. Vanilla is mainly produced in southeast Asia, as well as in Mexico.

700 million tonnes of wheat is produced per year currently around the world. Canada is the 6th top producer of wheat in the world.

Raspberries are produced in a variety of countries around the world. Canada is the 9th leading producer of raspberries.

In summary, 3 of the 7 ingredients we needed are produced in Canada, while the other 4 can be purchased without much difficulty. None of the ingredients were not available and required us to make substitutions.
