NEWFOUNDLAND STYLE HAM AND SPLIT PEA SOUP WITH DOUGH BOYS

HAM AND SPLIT PEA SOUP

  • Water: 12 cups
  • Ham bone: 1 bone
  • Garlic: 4 cloves, roughly chopped
  • Onion: 1 small, chopped
  • Dried yellow split peas: 2 cups
  • Bay leaves: 3-4 leaves
  • Dried thyme: 1 tablespoon
  • Coarsely black pepper: 1 teaspoon
  • sweet white onion: 1.5 cups, diced   
  • Carrots: 3 cups, diced
  • Baked, smoked ham: 3 cups

DOUGH BOYS

  • Flour: 2 cups
  • Sugar: 2 tablespoons
  • Baking soda: 1 teaspoon
  • Baking powder: 2 teaspoons
  • Salt: 0.5 teaspoon
  • Milk: 1 cup, warm
  • Butter: 0.25 cup, melted
